How do you prepare for a runway show as a model? As they walk down a runway a lot of responsibility can rest on the shoulders of a model to represent a designers work as closely as intended.

TYG: Hi Daisy, what was the show for?

Daisy: It was for Manchester Fashion Institute so we were showcasing their design collectives final pieces.

TYG: Please tell us what the event was like?

Daisy: It was a long day but well planned and went very smoothly - the show itself is only a few minutes but we arrive very early to practice, be fitted for the looks and get hair and makeup. Anything that doesn’t fit or could break is repaired/swapped so that when we do the real show in front of the audience it runs perfectly.

Walks are more of an individuals style and then you adapt to the pace/style the client requests once you arrive.

TYG: How do you get approached for events like this?

Daisy: Brands/businesses approach our agencies and they receive a ‘package’ of all available models. The client then selects who they want and from there we are sent over call sheets and the location. Sometimes you are invited to an in person casting but in this case I was asked for a walking video and was selected from that.

TYG: What is the planning like beforehand? Do you get told much about what you will be wearing, how to walk for it etc?

Daisy: You don’t really know anything except for the location and call times until the day. A lot of the time the clothes you are wearing aren’t publicly available yet and so we don’t really get given much information in order to keep things private until the show/collection release. Walks are more of an individuals style and then you adapt to the pace/style the client requests once you arrive.

TYG: Did you do much training in runway modelling?

Daisy: Quite a bit yes. My mother agency runs workshops to teach us techniques when we are first signed and then I practice beforehand to make sure I’m happy with my walk and comfortable doing it in tall heels. I’ve also just gained a lot of experience from working so it comes a lot more naturally now.

TYG: Who are some designers/brands you would like to walk for in the future?

Daisy: Definitely Vivienne Westwood as she’s my biggest design inspiration. I love getting to experience all different brands and how they run their shows though so in the future I mostly just want to be able to work for as many different designers as I can - I find it very creatively rewarding to see designers newest work and feel privileged to be able to see it before most people can.
