Makeup means many things for different people. For makeup artist Corrine Lamptey it means one word- confidence. A trained professional MUA for over 11 years, Corinne became the founder of Manchester based makeup agency The Rae Agency in 2022.
Wanting the agency to provide her team with opportunities the agency has already acquired clients such as Sky, Reebook and Puma in this time, as well as their recent work for the Brit Awards in Manchester.
In her recent interview with TYG Corrine tells the story of the focus the agency brought her during a tough time in her life and how it is helping those on board to build their careers.

I started off my career getting a part time counter job on Clarins when I was 20, I applied for a job with MAC and didn’t get the job - that’s when I realised I needed to get a qualification. I then did a private course for 1 year in Media Makeup, later doing add on courses as I went along to go more in depth & train in hairstyling. My next interview after this I got the job @ MAC easy peasy! So I’d say 13 years from my first beauty job, 11 years as a professional MUA. But I originally started in the music industry, so one of the reasons for me wanting to learn how to do makeup was so I could do it myself for gigs. Makeup did not come naturally to me at all! I was so bad.
Makeup to me means confidence. I know myself if I’m not feeling right mentally, just washing my hair, styling it and putting on a face of makeup just helps my mood so much. It doesn’t have to be much, but just enough so you feel ready and polished. Even on a model on set - you can tell the models confidence is so much higher when they love their makeup, therefore resulting in better images from the shoot overall.
Daisy speaks to TYG in the In Conversation series
The agency began under my own makeup name, wherever I couldn’t do a job I would put other trusted MUAs onto these and built up a small team around me. As we began to grow I launched The Rae Agency in October 2022 as my mum was very ill. It gave me something to focus on during a really hard time of my life and helped where I couldn’t physically be on set myself, the team all pulled together. Even after she passed away, it gave me a sense of purpose to have strength, carry on and continue to build something, without it I don’t know where I would have been mentally.
The aim of the agency is to provide a high standard service to all clients and connect our talent with meaningful opportunities. We want to make sure that all genders & races feel 100% confident with any of our artists - we feel very strongly about discrimination and mental health. We are a modern agency breaking away from the old school style of hair and makeup, our style is super sexy and confident.
HMUA agencies are great as they allow the creatives to really focus on what they’re best at - being creative and doing what they love. As we handle all invoices & admin, outreach, discussing rates and booking jobs in as well as making sure they’re protected financially. I think the admin side can get very overwhelming - especially when it’s a hands on role managing to reply to clients in between working gets a lot that things can go missed. It can also feel lonely as a hair or makeup artist that being part of an agency can feel like a community as well and having someone to vent to that fully has your back. We have such a great relationship all of us which is really nice.

For me it’s 50% talent and 50% personality. I have to know that you’re a good, genuine person that I could send on any job and know that they will get along with the team and do an amazing job. They must be fully confident with all skin colours & hair textures, its something that’s really important to the agency that no-one is ever felt singled out or that they have to bring their own products to set. Their kits must cater to everyone.
We have done some amazing things especially over the last year, we have been getting a lot of Australian brands this year shooting in Europe such as Showpo, Babyboo & Whitefox who have flown Chloe out to Paris twice in the last 6 months which was exciting. We have had some big campaigns with EA Sports in Italy, Nike x Cortiez and lots of football work with Man City & Liverpool, Puma & Adidas. With women’s football constantly growing, we are having more work than ever with Women’s football which I feel really proud of being a part of that rise in the industry.
